Successful Opening for Willen Lake’s Splash ‘n’ Play

26th July 2017

The new Splash ‘n’ Play splash park at Willen Lake has opened with a successful first weekend. Full details about Splash 'n' Play can be seen here including our opening times, birthday parties and session times.

Despite the disappointing weather, the new splash park was enjoyed by lots of children, with plenty of positive feedback received on the site.

Rob Wood, General Manager of Willen Lake, commented: “It was fantastic to see so many children enjoying our new Splash ‘n’ Play and we are thrilled that it is now open – just in time for the summer holidays!

“Next to open will be the refreshment kiosk, which will sell drinks, snacks and deliciously smooth home-made gelato.”

The new splash park is part of the first phase of a wider development at Willen Lake, which also included the installation of new toilets, and a new, surfaced car park offering an additional 300 spaces. Further natural play features were installed and grass areas within the site were re-landscaped, improving the space available for play, picnics and events.  Further tree and shrub planting will take place in the autumn.

This initial phase has cost £2.8million, and a second phase of around £1.5million is planned for next year to further improve the site’s facilities.

The redevelopment has been funded completely by The Parks Trust.

New Details Announced for Willen Lake’s Splash ‘n’ Play

21st June 2017

We are excited to announce the latest details about our new splash park, Splash ‘n’ Play.

Splash ‘n’ Play is due to open on Saturday 22nd July 2017, in time for the summer holidays. It will cover 1000m², making it one of the UK’s largest outdoor splash parks, and considerably bigger than others in the local area.

With over 60 unique water features, there will be plenty for children aged up to 13-years-old to enjoy. Highlights include a Super Splash, a large drench bucket; a water tunnel; eleven jets, a sail boat, water cannons and a Sea Serpent.

In the special toddler play area there will be a bespoke water journey area called The Race to help stimulate their imagination and interactive social skills. Toddlers can also enjoy the magic mist, aqua dome and water bugs features.

To ensure an enjoyable and safe experience is had by all, access to Splash ‘n’ Play will be controlled by dedicated splash park attendants, who will manage the sessions and ensure the area is kept clean and safe. They will also ensure there is no overcrowding, even on the busiest days. Sessions will cost £3 and last 25 minutes, with a five-minute changeover between each session.

Parents can watch from the dedicated viewing area. There will be separate toilets in this area, as well as a refreshment kiosk offering homemade ice-cream, hot and cold drinks, and snacks.

Rob Wood, our General Manager, commented: “Since we announced the development at Willen Lake, we’ve been inundated by people wanting to find out more about Splash ‘n’ Play. We’re sure it will prove very popular; it’s going to be packed with features for children of all ages to enjoy, in the beautiful surroundings of Willen Lake.”

The new splash park is part of the first phase of a wider development at Willen Lake. This phase has cost £2.8million, and a second phase of around £1.5million is planned for next year to further improve the site’s facilities. The redevelopment has been funded completely by self-financing charity The Parks Trust.
